So we’ve decided to stay a night in Southampton before our cruise. Travelling with a baby can be unpredictable and we didn’t want to risk missing our ship. Fortunately for us we only had to stop once to feed Eli as he slept most of the 4 hour journey.
The Ibis Budget is easy to get to and had loads of parking space available. There’s 2 ibis hotels in the same area so that was quite confusing and we did walk into the wrong one initially. (wish we hadn’t as they had a WHOLE JAR of jelly beans and ours doesn’t)
Check in was easy and we booked and paid for our parking there and then. Parking here is very reasonable, we were looking at approximately £40 For 3 days parking in the port but Ibis only charge £7 For 24 hours so we’ve bagged it for just £21, bargain!
At £44 for the night I can’t really complain about the price. The room isn’t particularly clean, the bed above has an unknown substance seeping through the joint and the floor seems quite dirty. Our bathroom is huge due to us being placed in a ground floor accessible room but is very basic and the towels are particularly scratchy.
We’re really close to the port and there’s lots of shops and restaurants for us to enjoy. We’ve been over to Ikea and enjoyed a drink in the dining area whilst admiring MSC Magnifica who was in port today and we’ve also popped into TGI Fridays for unlimited appetizers which has left us in a huge food coma.
Its a tough one really because the parking is so affordable and the port is literally a 2 minute walk from where we are it sort of makes up for the dirty, unappealing room. However it’s not really getting me in the mood for tomorrows cruise so maybe next time I will look at the more upmarket Ibis or Novotel across the carpark and see what they can offer in terms of parking.
To summarize… If you want somewhere to drink cocktails and get in the mood for you upcoming cruise, don’t book the Ibis Budget. If you’d like somewhere cheap, cheerful and close to the port then go for it!
